The Girthtones started playing together at the end of 2006. Initially the concept was to get a bunch of weird cover songs together and plays some shows at local bars and clubs. After putting 30 cover songs under their belt, the band started working on original material which leads us to where we are today. The band has begun recording drum tracks for their upcoming release, slated to be finished in early 2008. Sean O’Connor and Matt Jenkins have been laying down the basic drum tracks for the record and are anxious to get all the skeletons finished up. Their original material is an Odd combination of Rock, Jazz, Pop, Blues, Metal, Country, Latin, Electronica and other styles of music that they have yet to implement... Their ever changing, inconsistent sound is their identifier. Following in the footsteps of shape shifters like Ween, Zappa, and Mr. Bungle, they also draw upon influences such as Johnny Cash, Dax Riggs, Elliott Smith, Bright Eyes, CCR. So you never really know what to expect next…. Except of course Emotional Rollercoaster Songs, Ripping Leads, The Sex, Catchy Melodies, etc…
